Chinese manufacturer Ulefone recently released a new outdoor smartphone, the Armor 8, which can be pre-ordered by August 23 for USD 139.99. The price is then expected to rise to 149.99 uscents and then permanently to US249.99 on 31 August. The device can also be ordered in Europe through suppliers such as Banggood.
For this price you get a 6.1 inch display, which dissolves with 720 x 1560 pixels and has a Waterdrop-Notch at the top. In this hides an 8 MP selfie camera, with a triple camera setup installed on the back. In this case, the main sensor with 16 MP dissolves, whereas the macro camera with 5 and the depth sensor with 2 MP. The fingerprint scanner can be found here at the side. However, the housing is IP68 and IP69K certified, which should allow the device to survive underwater for a long time.
Inside, Ulefone uses mediatek's Helio P60 as a processor, which has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. The latter can be extended by up to 256 GB via microSD card. The battery has a proud capacity of 5580mAh and should therefore easily bring even intensive users through at least one day. As an operating system, the vanilla version of Android 10 is pre-installed.
In summary, the Ulefone Armor 8 is a very interesting smartphone, which is likely to meet little competition in its price range, especially for release. However, once the initial discounts are eliminated, the device will have to compete against outdoor competition from other manufacturers such as Samsung. It will definitely be exciting to see if the Chinese company can become a serious competitor to the established suppliers in the segment.
