After a year and a half, Asus introduced an expected successor to its top model with a rotating camera. The Asus Zenfone 7 Pro was built from its predecessor last year and still features the unique design of a rotating flip camera, which can be tilted from the back up to 180° from the back to the same field as the screen. There are two main advantages of this solution – the display doesn't have to have any pieces and selfie images have the same quality as other photos.
Of course, there are also downsides. The production of such equipment is technologically more demanding and therefore more expensive. This may be one of the reasons why other manufacturers have not adopted this design, and Asus remains unique in this. In addition, any component with a smooth mechanism automatically removes the phone from the list of dust and water resistant devices. So you can't rinse or run Zenfone 7 Pro in an overly dusty environment. But there are no other limits. The body is made of a proven combination of metal and glass. There are two colors to choose from - black with reflections in pearly green and white.
Zenfone 6 years ago carried a 6.4-inch screen, this year "seven" stretching diagonally to 6.7 inches. Full HD+ resolution remains (and pretty much), but technology has changed. The phone contains a contrasting AMOLED display from Samsung with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and HDR10+ support. The maximum brightness in the outdoor environment can reach up to 700 cd / m2 (rivets), the highest instantaneous brightness value of even 1,000 rivets. In the picture, Asus takes a big step forward against last year's generation.
In terms of performance, this is an uncompromising engine with qualcomm's current highest Snapdragon 865+ processor. The phone supports 5G connectivity and, unlike some other manufacturers, does not lock the Dual SIM function, so you have drawers for two carrier cards + one memory card. Internal storage is UFS 3.1 and LPDDR5. The highest variant sold was 8 + 256 GB.
Zenfone 6 years ago had no wireless charging and we didn't see it with its successor. Asus still manages several parameters that contradict each other - device thickness, battery capacity, and battery charging speed. When he added one, he had to reduce the other two. And the induction coil comes out of the wheel again. Thanks to this, the battery can have a capacity of 5,000 mAh and cable charging significantly (roughly half) faster than last year.
The triple rotating camera - a new addition to the telephoto lens (3 × optical zoom, 12 × digital zoom, OIS, 8 MPx), which together with the main sensor (64 MPx, Sony IMX686, f1.8, OIS) and wide-angle camera (12 MPx, Sony IMX363, f2.2) becomes a universal camera on mobile phones, which from the point of view demands currently have no essential functionality. Thanks to autofocus, the macro sensor function is replaced by a wide-angle lens, allowing you to focus as close as 4 cm.
Thanks to the processor's brutal performance, 8K 30 fps video or 60 fps 4K video, including wide-angle lenses, are no problem for cameras in camera mode. Video uses electronic image stabilization (EIS) and can be seamlessly switched between lenses. Asus recently introduced a professional video mode, where you can, for example, focus manually or lock exposure and white balance.
So far, we've talked about the Zenfone 7 Pro (ZS671KS) model. But Asus will also sell a new thing called Zenfone 7 (ZS670KS). The difference will be minimal and the device will be no different outside. Models without "Pro" in its name will include snapdragon 865 processor, 6 + 128 GB memory or 8 + 128 GB, and the camera will lose optical stabilization (OIS). The price will also be different.
