Nikon D3500 User Manual - Through Nikon Z 7 and Z 6, Nikon officially started a new chapter in the mirrorless scene. Nevertheless, the eternal rival of Canon certainly did not forget the segment that managed to build its reputation to this point. After all, Nikon's latest mirrorless cameras are in the high-end category, so there is still a gap in the lower class that can be filled by its latest DSLR.
Nikon D3500, as its name suggests, is a successor of the Nikon D3400 that was released two years ago. Again Nikon does not provide improved image quality, because the target market intended in this class is those who have never had a camera at all, and the specifications of the predecessor alone is more than enough.

These specifications include a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor and Expeed 4 processor. Its ISO level is in the range of 100 – 25600, while its autofocus relies on the 11-point system. The only thing that is most disappointing is its video recording capability, which is still limited to 1080p 60 fps, whereas we are already living in a 4K-capable smartphone era.
The performance is exactly the same, but what has changed is its practicality. D3500 apparently has a more concise dimension than the D3400, weighing only 365 grams, already including batteries. This battery is also very special, able to survive up to 1,550 shots in a single charge, up about 30% of D3400 batteries are already relatively durable.
The D3500 design has also been refined to make it easier to operate. One I like the most is, all the buttons in the back panel are now positioned to the right of the screen (except the Flash pop-up button). That way, users can grab them all using their right thumb without having to remove their eyes from the viewfinder.
Wi-Fi is again absent on this camera. But don't worry, D3500 still has Bluetooth enabled and is compatible with the SnapBridge system. In its latest version, SnapBridge is not only useful to facilitate the process of transferring images to mobile devices only, but also allows remote control functions via Bluetooth.
Another change that will make consumers smile is the selling price which drops drastically when compared to D3400. Nikon pegged the price of $500 alone for the D3500 with a lens of 18 – 55mm f/3.5 – 5.6 G VR, while a bundle with two lenses (the lens that was plus 70 – 300mm f/4.5 – 6.3 G ED) was priced at $850.
